I think Jack is smarter that we think he is.
I saw his face and despite everything many people is saying I saw relief. When he saw Sawyer and Kate together he somehow looked relieved, happy. But not disappointed.
I see he made up his plan, he was angry at Ben for what he said, I bet about Juliet and his ex-wife, but he quickly made a plan to help Kate and Sawyer go.
I feel like Jack is the hero, but being objective, I don’t believe in martyrs or people that just give too much.
I think Jack made a bet on his luck, his idea is not to let Ben die; he’s making sure he can help his friends escape, but he’s buying his ticket out. Out of what? Out of the island, back to real world, back to his career, out of living in a cage?
Because, mostly of the survivors that we know, have a reason to stay and start this new life somehow, have this second chance, the only one that doesn’t need that is Jack.
He wants to make things better, under the over used word ‘fix’. He’s motivated by making things better around him, but like I said, I’m not implying that he does it cuz he’s ultra-saint or something, he’s just human, it’s his way to feel good with himself or any other egocentric reason.
The thing is that in the island there’s not much that he can do. But in the real world, there are a lot of spinal columns to operate.
So, in my opinion, he’s the one that shouldn’t be there.
Everyone says Hurley is the one that doesn’t belong. I think it’s Jack.
So by saving his friends, he’s fixing stuff, and he’s finding his way out.
So, the big surprise to all the Jaters out there (including me) was, his face. He was happy to see them together, to see them bond, to see Kate stay and not run, to see Sawyer be soft. So to all Jaters, in your face, he’s not really in love with Kate, he just cares too much.
Jack is too smart and deserves something better than Kate the liar, the fugitive, and the complete fake.
I love Kate, great character, Evangeline is amazing, but let’s face it, she’s not one of ‘the good ones’. She, like everyone else, she deserves a second chance, but she knows she’s not worth him. She’s been rejecting Jack for quite some time.
